The UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge took place on Thursday April 27th. This is a prestigious, national competition where over 250,000 students in Years 7 and 8 from over 4000 schools in the country sit a mathematics challenge paper under exam conditions. Maiden Erlegh School in Reading entered 113 students into this competition, providing them with the opportunity to take part and allowing them to measure themselves against the best mathematicians in the country. They were expected to solve difficult mathematical problems which they would not normally confront in class. This allowed them to think about mathematics in a different way and use their skills and an analytical approach to find solutions.
The results should arrive in school by the end of the month and I hope to be able to share with you news of the students’ success.
