The UKMT Junior Mathematics Challenge took place on Thursday April 28th. This is a prestigious, national competition where over 250,000 students in Years 7 and 8 from over 4000 schools in the country sit a mathematics challenge paper under exam conditions. Maiden Erlegh School in Reading entered 56 students from sets 1 and 2 into this competition, providing them with the opportunity to take part and allowing them to measure themselves against the best mathematicians in the country. They were expected to solve difficult mathematical problems which they would not normally confront in class. This allowed them to think about mathematics in a different way and use their skills and an analytical approach to find solutions.
As a school we had a number of excellent results and detailed below are the students who achieved certificates for their achievements:
GOLD (awarded for placing in the top 6.7% in the country):
SILVER (awarded for placing in the top 20% in the country):
BRONZE (awarded for placing in the top 40% in the country):
Best in School/Best in Year: Elisha
All students behaved in an exemplary manner throughout the event and every child who took part should be proud of their efforts on the day of the competition. Particular credit goes to those students who managed to achieve a certificate.
