Visit to the Gurdwara
On Monday 19 October, Mrs James, Miss Butler, Dr Thomas and 17 students visited the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Cumberland Road, Reading. Upon arrival they were taken into the Langar (free kitchen) where they were served with a delicious meal of vegetable curry and rice. One student had four helpings of rice pudding!
A speaker from Slough addressed the group about Sikhism to assist the group in their topic and four of the boys had a turban made for them.
The group were then shown the main Diwan Hall (prayer hall where they saw the Guru Granth Sahib (Holy book) on its special platform and were lucky to be shown the Granth’s bedroom. They also listened to a Ragi who sang a prayer ‘Waheguru’.
The trip was very successful and the students learnt a lot ….and ate a lot!
